Typing “mid missing” may take longer than the enemy's rotation. Here is a compact, evergreen guide to Riot's official Smart Ping instructions, not a new patch announcement.

[Input → result]

Hold Alt or Ctrl and left-click, then drag to a choice on the eight-direction wheel and release.

Right-click → cancel the selection.

G → generic ping; V → caution ping.

The terrain and minimap both accept pings. Network latency, also called “ping,” is different: press Ctrl+F in-game to display it.

[Signals worth learning from the image]

Enemy Missing: alert allies when a lane opponent disappears.

Need Vision: request a ward on an approach route.

Enemy Vision: mark an area where the opponent has vision.

On My Way: show the route of your rotation.

Retreat: warn allies away from danger.

[At an objective]

Pinging a major objective such as a drake, Baron, or Rift Herald can initiate an objective vote. Riot says you may need the All In ping if that objective has not spawned. Instead of spamming “go,” try making the plan clearer with Need Vision → On My Way → the objective vote. That sequence is a practical suggestion, not an automatic game procedure.
